I was so irritated by the recent hazy condition. Because of this bad air quality, I'm going to continue wearing a mask although the Influenza A(H1N1) cases has subsided.

The Minister of Development, YB Pehin Abdullah has declared a Prescribed Period to ban open burning activities under the Penal Code Section 277A, which took effect on 4th August 2009.Under this section, the public is refrained from conducting any open burning activities. Offenders will be punished with a fine not exceeding B$100,000.00. If such offences cause pollution to the atmosphere or endanger human life or property, the punishment is a fine of unlimited amount and or imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years.
To enforce the provision, JASTRE will continue to closely monitor the air quality and conduct joint efforts with other relevant authorities to curb open burning activities during the prescribed period.
The Medical Health Services announced a health guideline in confronting the haze: PSI reading of below 50 will have no adverse effect on health. From 50 to 100 are considered moderate but could cause coughing, fever and sore eyes. However if the PSI reading stands at 101 to 200 are considered unhealthy and sufferers of lung and health diseases might have a higher risk.
