some facts & figures on local rice production

Present Rice Production 2008 = 883.5 metric tonnes
area under 2008 = 1,300 hectares
No. of planters 2008 = 1,199 farmers

Rice production in 2007 = 982.9 metric tonnes (3.12%)
Short Term Target 2010 = 5,800 metric tonnes (20%)
Mid-term target 2015 = 18,000 metric tonnes (60%)


Local Rice Production Targets

Brunei-Muara District
Wasan - 230 hectares
Bebuloh - 200 hectares

Tutong District
Supon Kechil, Keriam & Rambai - 200 hectares

Belait District
Lot Sengkuang - 1,000 hectares

Temburong District
Lekium/Perdayan - 700 hectares
Selapon - 150 hectares
Senukoh - 80 hectares


To achieve the self-sufficiency target, the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources is improving the following aspects:
- upgrading of farm infrastructure e.g. drainage and irrigation system, & roads etc

- systematic farming system
- introduction of high yield paddy variety
- to monitor diseases encountered by farmers
